Andreas Mikkelsen finished 6th at the Rallye Deutschland. – We still have a big job to do on tarmac, he says.
August 19, 2018
The Norwegian struggled with getting to grips with the tricky German tarmac all through the weekend. He never found the rhythm and is still trying to find the setup and the driving style for this surface. He has been adapting his driving-style on every stage, without the best of results.
– We have worked on the car and the setup for every stage and have done our best with our engineers to adapt the setup and the driving style. We have found a few positive things, and we could rule out a few changes that went in the negative direction. Ending 6th isn’t so bad considering, but we are on a higher level and should really deliver better results. I know I can be fast on the tarmac. But as soon as we have tried to push, I didn’t feel comfortable in the car and then it gets risky, Andreas explains.
Both Andreas and co-driver Anders Jæger have worked hard to improve in Germany. Now they are looking forward to the next event in Turkey and to be back on gravel.
– Can’t wait now to be back on gravel where I feel more comfortable with the car. But we still have a huge job to do before we get to Spain and the next tarmac stages. I hope we can manage to get closer to a set up that I can adapt to, says Andreas – who climbed from 6th to 5th in the championship standings after this rally.
