Great performance by Veiby in Corsica

“We started the rally at our own pace and drove in a controlled way. Then we took it step by step all through the weekend and constantly improved our driving. We made a few mistakes and had a couple of punctures that cost us time, but apart from that I am very pleased with our performance” said Ole Christian Veiby, who had fourth place in the pocket. But a puncture on the penultimate stage made him drop down to fifth.

Tour de Corse was his 20th WRC event and the main goal for him and his co-driver Stig Rune Skjærmoen was to gain experience. The duo has previously competed in Corsica with a two-wheel-drive car in the JWRC and Ole cannot deny that it is a big difference to be behind the wheel of a four-wheel-drive Skoda Fabia R5.

“Andreas Mikkelsen and the other top drivers are fast on asphalt and in that sense, this weekend has been a great benchmark for us. It has been all about learning and developing and I feel like that’s what we have done at this event” he said.

“It is not easy to say that you should do this or that, because things don’t fall into place right away. You need to practice. Considering that, I am very pleased that we have taken big steps forward all the way and improved a lot over the weekend. Rally is a sport where experience is extremely important and that is exactly why this event has been so valuable to us” explained Ole.
